Biggest solar flare in years erupts from Sun

The sun has emitted a huge solar flare that is heading towards earth, NASA has warned. The eruption of the X-flare, the strongest kind, occurred at 0156 GMT on Tuesday and was recorded by the US space agency’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. The British Geological Survey (BGS) has issued a geomagnetic storm warning, as the charged particles heading this way have the capacity to affect communication equipment such as satellites.
