At least 16 people, including two children, were killed in a bus-train collision in northern Mexico on Friday.

The bus departed the city of Nuevo Laredo and travelled to Nueva Rosita on Friday evening. The fatal accident took place in Anahuac.

Local media reported that the bus was overloaded. It was carrying 60 people but it only had 40 seatings.

The bus reportedly ignored a stop light and crashed into a freight train at a grade crossing.

The bus suffered heavy damages and was split into halves. Mexican authorities believe the death toll will possibly increase as many people were underneath the bus. The accident also wounded at least 30 others.
