Canadian police said they acted on a tip provided by the public and intercepted a mass shooting plot on Valentine’s Day.

The authorities received Thursday morning a tip-off about a plan in which at least two suspects would open fire on a large group of citizens in a public place before committing suicide on February 14.

A group of police officers were deployed to a Tiger Maple Avenue residence, where they found the body of a 19-year-old male suspect.

A 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were arrested at around 2 a.m. on Friday. Reports said the woman flew to Canada and the young man was meeting her.

About nine hours later, Canadian police made another arrest, this time a 17-year-old male suspect, at a Cole Harbour house.

Canadian police said the 19-year-old male suspect and the 23-year-old female suspect, an Illinois native, had access to firearms, but they did not divulge any details.

The roles of the two other suspects are yet to be determined, Canadian police said.

It was not a “culturally based” terrorist plot, according to Nova Scotia RCMP Commanding Officer Brian Brennan. He said the suspects shared “some beliefs and were willing to carry out violent acts against citizens”.
