A large air conditioning unit fell from a crane in Midtown New York at 11 a.m. Sunday morning, injuring at least seven pedestrians and motorists.

A crane was hauling a huge air conditioning unit to the top floor of Madison 261, a 30-story building between East 38th street and 39th street. The crane was lifting the industrial-sized air conditioning unit to one of the building’s upper floors when the rigging cords snapped, sending the unit plummeting to the sidewalk below.

The air conditioning unit fell 28 storeys, hitting the building’s facade as it went down and smashing several windows. Seven pedestrians and motorists were injured by falling debris.

The Buildings Commissioner Rich Chandler told the New York Daily News that the crane was in ‘good working order.’ An investigation is ongoing.
